Pete Mols runs Mastermind9, a peer-to-peer mastermind group for business owners. For eight years, he had the same problem.
His site ranked well. Search “mastermind group UK” and he’d be right there. Traffic was coming in. But sign-ups? They weren’t.
Some quarters he’d struggle to get 10 new members. Eight years of ranking, eight years of wondering why it wasn’t converting.
The Problem Wasn’t Traffic
When we looked at the site, the issue wasn’t visibility. People were finding Mastermind9. Not just via search engines either, AI engines as well. They just weren’t taking the next step.
The traffic was there. The conversion wasn’t.
That meant the answer wasn’t more SEO or another traffic source. It was looking at what happened after visitors landed.
What We Changed
We didn’t redesign the site. We made strategic tweaks:
- Added clearer social proof – Pete had at least one amazing testimonial, which gave actual revenue gains from belonging to one of his Mastermind groups. But the testimonial was hidden two thirds down the page and no-one was seeing it. We moved it to where visitors would see it.
- Stronger Headline – we changed the headline to focus on results for the business owner rather than what the Mastermind9 groups are…this was key for helping business owners to read and think “I need this”
- Clearer Process – the process of signing up was not clear and the standard “Get In Touch” call to action was too vague. We added a description of the whole process and made it cleaner, straight to a Calendly link. This reduced the friction to signing up.
Small changes. But each one removed friction or built confidence at key moments.
The Results
Once the changes had been made, within two weeks, 12 people signed up for Mastermind9.
To put that in context: Pete sometimes didn’t hit 10 sign-ups in an entire quarter.
At Mastermind9’s membership pricing (£150-£375/month), those 12 sign-ups represent somewhere between £21,600 and £54,000 in annual recurring revenue.
From two weeks. From tweaks, not a rebuild.
The Lesson
If you’re ranking well but not converting, more traffic isn’t the answer. The answer is looking at your site through your visitors’ eyes and asking: what’s stopping them from saying yes?
Sometimes it’s trust. Sometimes it’s clarity. Sometimes it’s just making the next step obvious.
Pete had the traffic for eight years. He just needed the conversion path to match.
